A neck light hangs around the neck with a lit head over each shoulder pointing down. That is the whole design, and it solves one problem completely: the light goes where you are looking rather than where you clipped it. If the person you are buying for reads lying on their side, holds a paperback one-handed, or shifts position constantly, a clip light is being re-clipped every ten minutes and a neck light is not.
Beam angle is the spec that decides a shared bed
Both Glocusent lights publish a 90-degree beam. That is narrow, and narrow is the point: a wide beam from something worn at collarbone height lights the whole bed, and a narrow one lights the book. Neither Gritin nor Bsdgeclogy publishes an angle, which does not mean their beams are wide — it means you cannot know.
The band is the part people return them over
A neck light sits on the collarbones for as long as the reading session lasts. That is the failure point, and it is why Glocusent's newer model advertises a band 15% thinner than its predecessor — a manufacturer redesigning a band is a manufacturer who has read their own returns.
The Gritin 3-Color takes the opposite approach: a soft silicone sheath over the whole frame that bends to a shape and stays there. Neither is obviously better and both are real answers to the same complaint.
Independent switches, if you read on your side
Reading on your side means one head is closer to the page than the other, and the far one is doing nothing useful except spilling light across the room. The older Glocusent LED Neck Light is the only one here that publishes an independent switch on each head, which means the far one can simply be turned off.
It is the reason to consider the older model over the newer one, against a warmest setting of 3000K rather than 1800K. That is a genuine trade rather than a straight upgrade path.
Where a neck light beats everything else
Not reading. Knitting, jigsaws, sewing, wiring a plug, reading sheet music at a stand — any task done with both hands in low light. Every listing here mentions those uses and it is not filler; it is the strongest argument for the format. A clip light needs something to clip to, and a pair of knitting needles is not it.

A neck light is a different object from a clip light and the two are not interchangeable. It hangs around the neck and points two heads down at whatever is in your lap, which means it works on a book, a tablet, knitting, a jigsaw, and a paperback held one-handed under a duvet. Nothing clips to anything, so nothing has to be re-clipped every time you change position.
The hundred-hour figure is quoted for single-head mode at what the seller calls standard reading brightness, which is a more honest way of putting it than most of this category manages. Run both heads bright and it will be a fraction of that. Still, on the published numbers it outlasts everything else here by a wide margin.
The 90-degree beam is the detail that decides whether this is a good gift for someone with a sleeping partner. A wide beam lights the whole bed; a narrow one lights the page. Glocusent publishes the angle, which is more than most sellers do.
The trade-off is that some people simply do not want to wear a device. There is no way to know that in advance about someone else, which is why this sits below the clip light as a blind gift even though the numbers are better.

The 30-minute timer is the reason this one is on the list. If the person you are buying for regularly falls asleep with the book open, every other light in this guide is still on at three in the morning and flat by breakfast. This one is not.
Four color temperatures is one more than the usual three, and the extra step sits at 4500K natural white, between the warm and the cold. That is the setting for reading a dense page at 9pm rather than a novel at midnight, and it is genuinely useful to have.
The listing is unusually straight about what is in the box: a one-meter USB-C cable and no wall charger. Everyone ships it that way and almost nobody says so.

The silicone sheath is the difference between this and the harder-bodied neck lights. It bends to a shape and stays there, and it does not have a plastic edge sitting on a collarbone for two hours.
Stepless dimming on a neck light is a better idea than it is on a clip light, because the light is close to your own eyeline: the difference between comfortable and slightly too bright is smaller and finer than three fixed steps can express.
Eight hours at the bottom of the runtime range is the honest number for both heads on full — worth reading as the floor rather than treating eighty as the figure.

Independent switches on each head sounds like a small thing and is not. Reading in bed on your side means one head is closer to the page than the other, and being able to turn the far one down — or off — is the difference between an even page and a bright half.
The lowest color temperature here is 3000K rather than the 1800K amber the clip lights offer. If the goal is the least stimulating possible light before sleep, this is a step brighter than the alternatives.
It is the previous generation of the neck light directly above it in this guide, and Glocusent's own listing for the newer one says the neckband is 15% thinner. If comfort over a long session is the deciding factor, that is a real reason to spend the difference.

Nine brightness levels is the headline and it is a real one — no other light in this guide publishes more than five. If the person you are buying for is fussy about exactly how bright is too bright, this is the one with the most room to be fussy in.
The battery capacity is never stated, only that it is high-capacity, which is a marketing adjective rather than a figure. Sixty hours is published; what it is sixty hours of, and from what size cell, is not.
Two blanks on the checklist — the charging port and the Kelvin values — put it near the bottom of this guide on disclosure. It is not a bad light; it is a listing that tells you less than its competitors' do, and on a category where every product looks identical in the photographs, that is what we can actually measure.

Do neck lights hurt your neck?
